    The exiled France striker Karim Benzema refused to accept the claims that he is not a good example levelled by the head of state following a blackmail scandal.

    Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has slammed the criticism levelled at him by French president Francois Hollande.

    France has declared three days of national mourning from Saturday after at least 84 people were mown down by a truck while watching a Bastille Day fireworks display, the prime minister said.

    Manuel Valls also told reporters that the government wants to extend the state of emergency which has been in force since the November 13 Paris attacks, until October.

    A lorry has struck a crowd after Bastille Day celebrations in the southern French city of Nice, killing at least 80 people, including children, and injuring dozens, officials say.

    It happened on the famous Promenade des Anglais after a firework display. The driver was shot dead and guns and grenades were found inside the lorry.

    President Francois Hollande said the attack was of a “terrorist nature”.

    He extended a state of emergency across France by three months.
