A Federal High Court in Abuja, on Monday, granted bail in the sum of N100m to a Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Sylvester Ngwuta, who was earlier in the day, arraigned on 16 counts, including money laundering and offences relating to obtaining of multiple passport.
The bail sum is to be guaranteed by self-recognisance of the defendant in his capacity as a serving Justice of the Supreme Court.

A Wuse Zone 2 Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday in Abuja granted two bureaus de change operators N1million bail each for allegedly defrauding a man of N17million.
The defendants are Abdullahi Garba and Musa Abba, both of Wuse Zone 4, Abuja.
The duo is facing a three-count charge of a joint act, criminal breach of trust and cheating.

James Tsoho, justice of the federal high court, Abuja, has granted Femi Fani-Kayode, spokesman of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign organisation, bail in the sum of N50m, and one surety in like sum.
In his ruling on Thursday, Tsoho held that the offence Fani-Kayode was alleged to have committed was a bailable one.
He, therefore, granted the defendant bail as requested by Afedayo Adedipe (SAN), his counsel.

A Magistrates’ Court at Karu in Abuja on Friday granted seven persons from the Shiite group bail of N100,000 each on the three-count charges against each of them.
The seven defendants were charged for the offences of criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly and inciting public peace, contrary to sections 97, 102 and 114 of the Penal Code.
The defendants are Ibrahim Dogo, Khadija Mohammed, Rukaiya Salisu, Mohammed Habib, Aminu Sani, Leminu Sani and Aisha Ameen, and all were arraigned for the same offences.
An amnesty programme has been set up by the Rivers State government for cultists in the state to surrender their arms and turn a new leaf.
This comes as recent battles for supremacy among suspected cult groups in the communities have resulted into many deaths and destruction of property with thousands fleeing their homes.

According to reports, the Borno State Government in collaboration with United Nations Population Funds (UNFPA) has empowered 100 female Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) with skills in book keeping and trades with N700, 000 take-off grants.

Uganda’s government has issued eight oil production licenses to two foreign companies, moving the East African country closer to becoming a producer of crude.
Five of the licenses were granted to Britain’s Tullow Oil while France’s Total was given three, after years of regulatory delays and tax disputes.
Representatives of the oil companies and Uganda’s government signed agreements in the capital, Kampala, on Tuesday.
Each license is good for 25 years and can be renewed for an additional five years.
