    No vaccine for Lassa fever prevention yet – NCDC

    According to reports, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says that there is no vaccine that is clinically proven to be effective in the prevention of Lassa fever at the moment.

    Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, the Chief Executive Officer of NCDC told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja that the only medical tool available to combat the disease for now was called Ribavrin.

    Ogun declares state free of Lassa fever

    The Commissioner for Health in Ogun, Dr Babatunde Ipaye, has declared the state free of Lassa fever following a recent expression of fear at a patient showing signs of the fever.

    The commissioner made this known in a statement he issued in Abeokuta on Sunday.

    Lassa fever: Only 13 persons still under observation – Delta govt

    Down from a high of 55, a total of 13 persons are now under observation in Delta State to determine whether they have Lassa Fever or not.

    A case of the deadly Lassa fever has been detected at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, Ondo State.

    It was gathered that the victim who came from Edo State went to the FMC to treat malaria fever; but after a blood test, it was discovered that the victim had contacted the deadly disease.

    NCDC confirms 5 cases of Lassa fever

    The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed five cases of Lassa Fever in four states of the country.

    The centre, which said the cases were recorded between August 24 and   September 2, disclosed that two cases were recorded in Plateau; and one each from Rivers, Bauchi and Gombe states.

    The centre said the patient in Gombe State had died while all the other patients were still alive.
