    LAUTECH students appeal for end to strike

    Students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, have appealed to the Oyo and Osun state governments, owners of the institution, to take steps to end the ongoing strike.

    They described the lack of resolution of the industrial action for the past five months as one capable of putting their academic careers in jeopardy.

    The students have been staying at home since June when workers of the university embarked on strike over non-payment of salaries.

    Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State and his Osun State counterpart, Rauf Aregbesola have agreed to an irrevocable commitment on joint ownership of the institution in accordance with its Act.

    According to reports, the Oyo State House of Assembly has summoned the state Ministry of Justice and its Education counterpart to appear on September 27 over the ownership status of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso.

    This followed a motion by Olawunmi Oladeji (Ogbomoso North/LP) and co-sponsored by nine other lawmakers at the plenary session on Thursday.

    A former Vice-Chancellor of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Prof. Muritala Salau, is dead.

    Salau who was a Professor of Physics, was also a National Commissioner with the Independent National Electoral Commission.

    He died at the Turkish Hospital, Abuja, where he went to treat a sickness on Saturday. He has since been buried in Mioniya, Ibadan according to Muslim rites. He was 67. May his soul rest in
