    Malaria: Bauchi State Government to distribute 56,000 treated nets

    According to reports, the Bauchi State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Malaria said it would distribute 56,120 long-lasting insecticide-treated nets across 340 health facilities.

    The Executive Secretary of the agency, Dr Mansur Dada, stated this on Tuesday while briefing newsmen on the exercise in Bauchi.

    According to Dada, the distribution is a collaboration between the state Government, the National Malaria Elimination Initiative and Global funds in its continuous efforts to combat malaria.

    Only five people died of malaria, not 48 – Sokoto government

    According to report, the Sokoto State Government on Saturday said only five malaria-related deaths were recorded at the Kofar-Kade Primary Health Centre in Sokoto North Local Government Area in the last one month.

    The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Alhaji Al-Mustapha Othman, made the clarification while briefing newsmen in Sokoto shortly after he led officials of the ministry on assessment visit to the centre.

    According to reports, the Nigeria Customs Service has confiscated substandard anti-malaria drugs and antibiotics, valued at N20million being smuggled into the country through the Nigeria/Benin Republic border at idiroko in Ogun State.

    Dr Kabiru Getso, Kano State Commissioner for Health, said on Monday that the state recorded about 22,000 deaths in 2015 due to malaria attacks.
