Chelsea stormed to their sixth successive victory in the Premier League with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.
The Blues are increasingly looking like real title contenders and Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 formation continues to frustrate opposition teams in the English top flight.
Diego Costa, the league’s top scorer, found the net in the 41st minute and was the sole scorer on Sunday afternoon.
The win means Chelsea leapfrog Manchester City and Liverpool to go top of the table and […]
Sergio Aguero was disappointed with Manchester City’s 1-1 Premier League draw with Middlesbrough on Saturday despite scoring his 150th goal for the club.
Aguero opened the scoring after being teed up by Kevin De Bruyne, but despite City forcing a string of saves from Victor Valdes, the second goal would not come and Marten de Roon equalised in second-half stoppage time.
Chelsea’s 5-0 demolition of Everton means City, who have now won just one of their last five top-flight outings, lost top […]
The Argentine reached a notable landmark on what proved a bittersweet afternoon as his side failed to make their pressure count.
Marten de Roon struck late for Middlesbrough as Manchester City were made to pay for failing to add to Sergio Aguero’s 150th goal for the club in a 1-1 Premier League draw on Saturday.
City absolutely dominated the game at Eithad Stadium, but former Barcelona player Victor Valdes produced an inspired performance in the Boro goal to ultimately deny Pep Guardiola, […]
A frustrated Arsene Wenger said Arsenal lacked their usual creativity and sharp movement in the 0-0 draw against Middlesbrough on Saturday, and added that fatigue may have been a factor after playing in midweek.
Arsenal had 75 percent possession but couldn’t find a breakthrough at the Emirates as their six-game winning streak in the Premier League came to a grinding halt.
It was the visitors who had the better chances, with Cech making two crucial saves in the first half to preserve […]
Arsene Wenger says Arsenal have Petr Cech to thank for saving them from defeat against Middlesbrough after a 0-0 draw at the Emirates.
Boro are without a win since beating basement boys Sunderland in August but asked plenty of questions of Arsenal, who were indebted to three fine saves from Cech.
Wenger turned 67 on Saturday but was left to bemoan a performance lacking the attacking verve of Wednesday’s 6-0 Champions League romp against Ludogorets.
“We tried. You don’t win on command though,” […]
Arsene Wenger’s side saw their eight-match winning run in all competitions come to an end on the coach’s birthday at the hands of Aitor Karanka’s newly promoted outfit.
Arsenal edged to the top of the Premier League but there was little else to cheer for Arsene Wenger on his 67th birthday as his team played out a goalless draw against Middlesbrough at the Emirates Stadium.
Winless since beating north-east rivals Sunderland in August, Boro could feel aggrieved not to lead at the […]
Arsenal defender Calum Chambers has joined Middlesbrough on a season-long loan.
The 21-year-old former Southampton star has opted for a move to the Riverside as Shkodran Mustafi has arrived at the Emirates.
Already behind Rob Holding, Laurent Koscielny, Gabriel Paulista and Per Mertesacker in the pecking order, Chambers has opted to leave in search of first-team football.
Middlesbrough head coach Aitor Karanka said: ‘I’m really pleased.

Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka has described Jose Mourinho as “amazing,” telling The Times he learned “a lot” from him when they worked together at Real Madrid.
Karanka steered Boro back to the top flight last season, a year after they had been beaten in the Championship playoff final.
And he said that, like Mourinho, his approach is to “give everything” for his club.
“When I was at Real Madrid again as a coach with Jose, it was the same: working hard,” he said.
‘Jose told me to be honest, to tell people to their face’: Mourinho’s old No 2 Karanka opens up ahead of Boro’s Premier League return and insists he never wanted to leave the club last season
As the champagne corks popped and the ticker tape streamed into the Teesside air, the tears flowed for Aitor Karanka.
‘I would like to go to my bed and cry for 24 hours,’ the Middlesbrough manager said after watching his side secure promotion — via goal difference — in May.
Ninety-five days later, Karanka is stylishly suited up and rather more composed as he nestles down on a settee in his office.
‘I was very emotional that day,’ the former Real Madrid defender […]
