    ASUP withdraws strike notice as FG opens negotiation

    The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics has withdrawn its notice directing members to begin a nationwide strike on August 22.

    The ASUP Coordinator, Zone B, Abdullahi Yalwa, made the disclosure when he briefed newsmen in Lokoja, Kogi State on Friday.

    Yalwa said the strike was put on hold following the resolve of the Federal Government to engage the union in dialogue.

    Edwin Clark, prominent Ijaw leader, says any dialogue between the federal government and militants in the Niger Delta region would not yield result without the involvement of Ijaw elders.

    Militants under the aegis of Ultimate Warriors of the Niger Delta, UWND, on Wednesday threatened the Federal Government saying their patience was running out over failure of the government to open negotiation with them, two weeks after declaring a ceasefire.
