    Niger state earmarks N869 million to improve education

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that Hajiya Fatima Madugu, Commissioner for Education, announced this at the end of the state Executive Council meeting on Thursday in Minna.

    She said that N214 million would be used for procurement of science equipment and solar plant while N655 million is for provision of furnitures, instructional materials and electronics in the schools.

    Madugu added that the effort is to provide qualitative education for students and conducive teaching environment for teachers.

    The Central Bank of Nigeria and the African Community Bridge Foundation, has disclosed that 2, 000 youth from Niger state have benefitted from its youth entrepreneurship skills acquisition programme for North Central.

    No fewer than 15 people have lost their lives in two boat mishaps that occurred in Kontagora and Borgu local government areas of Niger State.

    The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Niger on Saturday said it apprehended a suspected fake army General in Minna.

    NECO/WAEC withholds Niger state results

    According to reports, the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) and National Examination Council (NECO) have refused to release the 2016 SSCE results of candidates in public secondary schools in Niger state due to the non-payment of examination fees by the state government.

    It was gathered that the Niger state government is owing both examination bodies to the tune of N700 million.
