    Budget padding: Sanctioned officials back to work in ministry – report

    President Muhammadu Buhari’s avowed determination to punish culprits who smuggled foreign items into the 2016 budget and who caused both national and international embarrassment are back to work, according to Economic Confidential.

    Investigation by the Economic Intelligence Magazine indicates that the officials who were sanctioned by their deployment outside Federal Ministry of Finance have since resumed duties in the same Ministry without the highly publicized punishment the President promised while speaking to Nigerians resident in Saudi Arabia.

    A total of 184 civil servants were disciplined for their different roles in the padding of the 2016 budget.

    This was contained in Buhari’s authorised biography, ‘Muhammadu Buhari: The Challenges of Leadership in Nigeria’, written by Prof. John Paden and presented to the public on Monday.

    According to reports, the House of Representatives Committee on Ethics and Privileges on Friday in Abuja, commenced public investigation into allegations of fraud made by Rep. Abdulmumin Jibrin against the House.

    The House of Representatives on Wednesday resolved to conduct an investigation into the allegations of tampering with the 2016 budget by some of its members.

    This followed a point of order brought under Matters of Privilege by the Chairman, House Committee on Rules and Business, Rep. Emmanuel Oker-Jev.

    Former Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has reiterated his call for the resignation of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara.
