    Boko Haram ‘razes village near Chibok, kills 2 soldiers’

    Boko Haram jihadists killed two soldiers and razed a village adjoining the northeast Nigerian town of Chibok where the group kidnapped more than 200 schoolgirls two years ago, residents said Sunday.

    The Nigerian army meanwhile said it had retaken some villages from the Islamist group in the Lake Chad region in operations on Friday and Saturday and “rescued” 85 people, including women and children. It also claimed nearly 40 Islamists were killed in other operations.

    Boko Haram has burnt down a village neighbouring the northeast Nigerian town of Chibok where the group kidnapped over 200 schoolgirls two years ago, local residents said Wednesday.

    A group of Boko Haram gunmen invaded Goptari, 10 kilometres from Chibok, late Tuesday and set it on fire after looting food supplies and livestock.

    Goods worth millions of naira were burnt on Sunday morning as the popular City Ways Shopping Complex located within Tejuosho Market, Yaba, Lagos State, went up in flames.

    The plaza and other adjoining kiosks built by the Yaba Local Government Area for the traders were completely razed down by the early morning inferno.

    A trader put the estimate of goods lost to the inferno at over N500 million.

    Fire on Saturday razed down the library complex of University of Jos, which also houses the faculties of Management and Social Sciences.

    The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sebastian Maimako, who briefed newsmen on Sunday after inspecting the damage, said the fire started about 6:30p.m.

    Fire razes building in Lagos, kills octogenarian

    An early morning fire yesterday razed a building at No. 5, Aborishade Close, Lawanson area of Lagos State and burnt an octogenarian, Mr. Godwin Oyia, to death.

    The incident, sources say was caused by an electric device used for boiling water popularly called ‘boiling ring’, which was left unattended to, in the deceased’s room.
