Kano state Deputy Governor, Professor Hafiz Abubakar, has canvased the need for a paradigm shift in Nigeria’s agricultural policy and investment in order to achieve a desired result in the economic diversification efforts.
He made the call while declaring open the 13th national conference of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) holding in Kano.
Professor Abubakar said that for a long time Nigeria’s agricultural policy has been concentrating on promotion of production aspect, while ignoring other value chain of the sector.
According to reports, the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, has recommended the sale of some national assets and the utilisation of proceeds for infrastructure development.
This, he said, was necessary for the nation to fight it’s way out of the current recession.
Saraki said this in his welcome address to Senators at the resumption of plenary on Tuesday.
