According to reports, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, has disclosed plans by the Federal Government to refund debts owed the 36 states by paying them N20billion apiece, a total of N720bn.
Dogara said the money would be used for the provision of infrastructure by the states.
Many states had in the past undertaken to rehabilitate failing federal government infrastructure in their domain, especially road projects with the understanding that they would be repaid by the latter.

Former Spokesman to ex-President, Goodluck Jonathan, Reuben Abati has informed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, that he has no money to refund to the government.

According to reports, the Senate Thursday ordered the refund of N263,931,254,708.51 billion allegedly diverted from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) by the Federal Government.
The decision follows a revelation of mismanagement of funds in the education sector between 2011 and 2015 when TETFUND allegedly lent to other government departments, contrary to the law establishing the agency.

Indications emerged yesterday that former minister of state for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro may spend more time with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as his offer to pay back N100 million to government coffers was reportedly rejected.
Obanikoro had earlier dared the anti-graft agency who declared him wanted on allegations that he used a company, Sylvan Mac Namara, owned by his sons, to siphon N4.68 billion from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), under retired Col. Sambo Dasuki.
A former presidential spokesman, Reuben Abati, has told the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission that he only has N5 million to reimburse the government.
Mr. Abati was detained when he reported at the EFCC headquarters a week ago.
During the interrogation, he reportedly admitted receiving N50 million from a former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.

Governor Muhammadu Jibrilla of Adamawa State has given road contractors two weeks ultimatum to resume work or refund the money the state government mobilised them with.
Speaking to newsmen yesterday in Yola, Governor Jibrilla said his administration would ensure that any contractor, who collected government money, delivered on the job or would be prosecuted for failure to do so.
