    EFCC summons eight SANs over bribe to judges

    It was gathered that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is extending the war against corruption in the judicial arm to the bar.

    It has invited eight Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) for interrogation over alleged payments into judges’ accounts.

    This is coming three weeks after the Department of State Security (DSS) raided the homes of several judges, including two justices of the Supreme Court, and arrested them for alleged corruption.

    SANs back NBA boss, say arrested judges must quit

    According to reports, the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria has backed call by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) President, Abubakar Mahmoud, saying arrested judges had to proceed on leave of absence, pending when they would be given a clean bill of health.

    The Body met in Lagos, yesterday, to endorse every action taken by Mahmoud on the matter.

    EFCC quizes two judges over N2.75m bribe from SANs

    According to reports, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Monday started the interrogation of two judges of the Federal High Court, Mohammed Nasir Yunusa and Hyeladzira Ajiya Nganjiwa for allegedly receiving bribes from two Senior Advocates of Nigeria, Rickey Tarfa SAN and Joseph Nwobike SAN.

    22 new SANs takes oath today

    According to reports, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Mahmud Mohammed will today confer the rank of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) on 22 successful lawyers to kick-start the 2016 legal year of the Supreme Court.

    Those to be conferred with prestigious rank include the Director General of the Nigerian Law School, Mr. Olanrewaju Onadeko, three academicians and two females.
