    Senate rejects NCC nominee who called for its scrapping

    It was gathered that the Senate yesterday rejected the nominations of a former Speaker of Kwara State House of Assembly, Ezekiel Yisa Benjamin and Saidu Abubakar as non-executive Commissioners of Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

    Benjamin’s rejection was based on the report by the Chairman of the Committee on Communications, Senator Gilbert Nnaji. The report recommended his rejection, alongside Abubakar’s.

    The immediate-past Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Prof. Julius Okojie, Wednesday, said the commission supported the scrapping of post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to protect the students from being swindled.

    ASUU kicks against FG’s scrapping of Post-UTME

    The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, on Wednesday, kicked against the Federal Government’s directive for tertiary institutions to scrap the Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, Post-UTME, for admission of candidates for the 2016/2017 academic session, saying the quality of tertiary education in the country could improve if the institutions are allowed to regulate their students admission process.

    EKSU VC backs scrapping of post-UTME

    The Vice-Chancellor, Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, Prof. Samuel Bandele, has described the post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (post-UTME) being organised by Nigerians universities as unnecessary duplication, saying that he supports the scrapping of the exercise.
