According to reports, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has commenced moves to remand a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Obla, for allegedly paying N5m into the bank account of a Federal High Court judge, Justice Rita Ofili–Ajumogobia.
Obla, who has been in EFCC detention for the last two days, is also a former EFCC prosecutor.
A source at the EFCC said, “We still need to keep him for interrogation. We will therefore approach a court to get a remand order.”
Acccording to reports, the National Judicial Council, NJC, has suspended seven senior judges arrested in October by the Department of State Services (DSS) for alleged corruption.
The NJC had initially refused to suspend the judges despite public pressure, saying the allegations against them had not been substantiated.
It however said the judges had voluntarily stepped down from court sittings.

In its efforts to get to the bottom of the corruption in the judiciary, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday quizzed three Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) for allegedly transferring huge sums of money to judges’ bank accounts.

Undaunted by criticism trailing its clampdown on corrupt judges, the Department of State Services (DSS) has concluded plans to swoop on more judges and some identified Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) who allegedly aided and abetted corruption on the Bench, accoridng to report.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday urged senior military officers to respect rule of law and human rights in the service to the nation.
The President made the call at the graduation of Senior Course 38 at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College Jaji, Kaduna.
