A non-governmental organisation, Civil Society Network Against Corruption, has faulted a statement by the National Judicial Council, claiming it never shielded judges accused of misconduct.
In the said statement issued by its Acting Director, Information, Mr. Soji Oye, after the council completed an emergency meeting over the October 8 and 9 raids and arrest of seven judges, the NJC said it had just two pending petition against two of the seven arrested judges.

According to reports, the Federal Ministry of Justice decided to forward petitions against judges bordering on alleged corrupt acts to the Department of State Services when the ministry discovered that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission failed to act on previous petitions as expected, it was learnt on Wednesday.
It was gathered that some human rights groups forwarded petitions to the Federal Ministry of Justice when the anti-graft agency failed to investigate and prosecute the judges.

Former House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations, Abdulmumin Jibrin, yesterday, gave reasons for his refusal to appear at the investigative hearing of the Ethics and Privileges Committee.
Jibrin, who reiterated his lack of faith in the committee, insisting that Ossai and other members of the committee had showed bias against him, warned that his suspension could lead to a contempt of court.
