Spokespersons of Afenifere Renewal Group (ARG), Yinka Odumakin, and human rights activist, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, have filed an action before the Federal High Court in Lagos, seeking to stop the proposed recruitment of 10,000 personnel into the Nigeria Police through local government quota.
Respondents in the suit, marked FHC/L/CS/1602/2016, are the Nigeria Police Force, Inspector General of Police, the Nigerian Police Council, National Assembly, Senate, House of Representatives, Minister of Police Affairs and the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.
Aggrieved by the suspension of their representative, Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, from the House of Representatives, electorates of Bebeji/Kiru federal constituency, have taken the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, House of Representatives and the House Clerk to court.
Jibrin was suspended from the lower federal legislature for 180 days for his role in the alleged padding of the 2016 budget.
Counsel to the aggrieved party, Barrister Bashir Muhammad Muqaddam, briefed journalists, yesterday, in Kano, after filing the case at the Federal High Court, Court 2.
Twenty nine constituents from Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in Kano state have dragged the Speaker, House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, to court over suspension of their member, Alhaji Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa.
Addressing a press conference in Kano on Friday at NUJ secretariat, Counsel to the plaintiff’s, Mr. Bashir Muqaddam, said the court had fixed December 20, 2016 for mentioning.
Barrister Muqaddam said the plaintiffs were challenging the legality of the suspension, saying Jibrin’s suspension was political witch-hunt.

Former military Governor of Kaduna State, Colonel Abubakar Dangiwa Umar (retd), has decided to sue MTN over unsolicited messages and fraudulent deductions by the telecoms giant.
Speaking on Saturday, Umar said he has briefed his lawyers to file the suit against MTN after complaining over unsolicited messages and deductions to no avail.
