    President Buhari swears in Walter Onnoghen as acting Chief Justice of Nigeria

    President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday administered an oath of office to Justice Walter Oonoghen as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria.

    He takes over from Justice Mahmud Mohammed who bowed out of the bench of the Supreme Court yesterday after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 70 years.

    Onnoghen is expected to act until the name of substantive CJN is forwarded to the Senate and it is confirmed.

    Senate President Bukola Saraki yesterday swore in Air Marshal Isaac Alfa and Chief Benjamin Uwajumogu as senators representing Kogi East and Imo North senatorial districts.

    A former Chief of Air Staff, Alfa won his election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while Uwajumogu emerged via the All Progressives Congress (APC).

    The newly elected member representing Oorelope constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Mr Balogun Lukman, was on Tuesday sworn in.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the house suspended its recess to also commence the process of approving the creation of 35 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.
