    FIRS shuts offices of tax defaulters in Lagos, Abuja

    The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) yesterday continued its tax compliance exercise in Abuja and Lagos with the closure of the premises of some companies it said were defaulters.

    In Abuja, the FIRS team, led by Mr. Chinazor Edeh, shut down the office of Taleveras, an energy firm operating from the Maitaima area of the city. The agency said the company was owing over N667 million in tax liabilities.

    Lagos to prosecute 28 tax offenders

    The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Lagos State, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem, on Monday said the state had filed all the necessary information of the case before the high court. It was reported no fewer than 28 alleged tax defaulters in the state.

    The commissioner said among the 28 alleged tax defaulters were those who failed to file and furnish the state with their tax returns and others who refused to pay their personal taxes to the state.
