    Telecoms operators threaten to offer poor data services

    The Association of Licenced Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) has warned consumers to expect poor data services, without the review of the Data Tariff Floor.

    Mr Gbenga Adebayo, Chairman of ALTON, said yesterday in a statement in Lagos, stressing the need for an upward review, so as to offer better data services to subscribers.

    Adebayo said that the operators fully understood the public sentiments that greeted the announcement of a minimum data tariff being introduced by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

    Data Tariff Hike: Senate orders NCC, Communications minister, telecoms service providers to appear before it

    Minister of Communications, Mr. Adebayo Shittu, has been summoned to come and explain the reasons for planned mobile telecommunication data tariffs increment, just as it asked service providers to suspend the plan.

    Also summoned to appear before senate are the Nigeria Communications Commission and telecommunication service providers to appear before its Committee on Communications.

    NCC plans to extend telecoms services next year

    The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) said on Friday provisions have been made in its 2017 budget to extend telecommunications services to additional 40 million people across the country.

    The Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Umar Dambatta, made this known in Lagos during a sensitization workshop organised by NCC for law enforcement agencies on telecommunications matters.

    NCC receives 6,163 complaints from telecoms subscribers in Q2

    According to reports, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) says it received 6,163 complaints from telecommunications subscribers in the second quarter of 2016.

    Mr Abdullahi Maikano, the Director, Consumer Affairs Bureau (CAB) of the commission made the disclosure to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Lagos.

    Maikano said that of the 6,163 complaints, 4,739 issues were resolved, giving a resolution of 76.9 per cent.

    He also said that the commission received 23,694 complaints from telecommunications consumers in the first quarter.
