    Oyo: Doctors begin warning strike in UCH

    Resident doctors at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan started  a five-day warning strike, yesterday over alleged short-payment in their salaries and allowances.

    Chairman of UCH Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), Dr. Lukman Ogunjinmi, said members embarked on the strike at 8:00am, yesterday, following a decision taken at  a congress on Tuesday afternoon.

    The bone of contention is the ‘skipping,’ which has to do with increased salary for resident doctors.

    Emergency Unit at UCH Ibadan gutted by fire

    The Accident and Emergency Unit of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan was yesterday gutted by fire. The unit’s central air conditioning systems and other equipment were destroyed by the fire.

    Witnesses said the blaze, which started around 4:15pm at Medical Store Casualty Unit, was caused by a gas explosion from the central air condition.

    UCH resident doctors suspend strike

    Dr Luqman Ogunjimi, the Chairman, Asssociation of Resident Doctors (ARD), University College Hospital (UCH) chapter said the strike embarked upon by doctors had been suspended.

    Ogunjimi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Ibadan that the doctors suspended the strike at the emergency meeting of the National Executive Council meeting of the association held in Abuja on Friday.
