    Former governor of Imo State, Chief Achike Udenwa, has refuted media reports that he was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).

    A press statement by his media aide, Mr. Peter Kalu, said “that the former governor wouldn’t have responded to the report, but for the numerous enquiries from the media and other members of the public. More so, this development was very grave and portrayed His Excellency as unreliable, which may have other sinister motive.”

    The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has explained why it re-arrested former Governor Achike Udenwa of Imo State on Wednesday.

    The EFCC, in a statement issued by Mr. Wilson Ujuwaren, its spokesman, said Udenwa, as a State Co-ordinator for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Organisation in Imo State, collected N350 million from Mrs. Nenadi Usman, the former Senator representing Kaduna South and Director of Finance for the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation.

    EFCC freezes accounts jointly owned by Udenwa, Onwuliri over N4bn campaign funds

    According to reports, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has frozen two bank accounts jointly owned by a former Governor of Imo State, Achike Udenwa; and a former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Prof. Viola Onwuliri.

    It was learnt that the accounts were frozen as part of investigation into the N4bn disbursed by the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation during the build-up to the 2015 presidential election.

    Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) detectives yesterday arrested former Imo State Governor Achike Udenwa over the disbursement of a huge sum of money during the 2015 presidential election.
