    Borno, UNFPA empower 100 women IDPs with skills, grants

    According to reports, the Borno State Government in collaboration with United Nations Population Funds (UNFPA) has empowered 100 female Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) with skills in book keeping and trades with N700, 000 take-off grants.

    Presenting the cash grants after training session at Maiduguri Bakasi IDPs camp, the Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, Fanta Baba Shehu, disclosed that the training of women IDPs was to address poverty and unemployment before they return to liberated communities in the state.

    Invest In Human Resource, UNFPA Urges Pres. Buhari

    It was revealed that the Executive Director, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Prof. Babatunde Osotimehin, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to invest in human resource development.

    Osotimehin gave the advice while fielding questions from NAN in Abuja on the sidelines of Nigeria’s Democracy Day.

    He said that adequate investment on health, education and nutrition can yield $500 billion annually as demographic dividends.

    “We must not be pushed to think that there are population crisis in Nigeria or Africa,” he said.
