    Abductors of UNICAL undergraduate demand N10m ransom

    Abductors  of Onyebuchi Okwueze,  son of the Dean of Graduate School of the University of Calabar, (UNICAL)have demanded N10 million for his release.

    Onyebuchi, 24, a first year student of the department of Banking and Finance, was  last Wednesday whisked away by gunmen numbering about eight.

    He was said to be alone in their flat when the kidnappers stormed the institution’s staff quarters within the campus about 8:00pm.

    The son of the Dean of Graduate School of the University of Calabar, Onyebuchi Okwueze, has reportedly been abducted from the staff quarters of the institution by unknown gunmen.

    Okwueze, a 24-year old first year student of the department of Banking and Finance was abducted on Wednesday.

    UNICAL governing council not aware of bursar’s suspension – Pro-Chancellor

    Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council of the University of Calabar, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, has said the board was not aware of the suspension of the institution’s bursar, Mr. Peter Agi.

    Iwuanyanwu, who was responding to Agi’s suspension on Wednesday, said the council has not met to deliberate on issues concerning the bursar.

    The Registrar of UNICAL, Mr. Moses Abang, had, in a letter on Monday, announced Agi’s suspension over issues bordering on alleged fraud and threat to life, among others.

    UNICAL is shut down for 2 weeks due to recent protest

    Following this morning protest by the students of the University of Calabar, the school has now been shut down for two weeks by the management.

    Newsmen reports that activities in the school were grounded this morning following protest by the students over poor welfare.

    The students who stormed the school premises in their thousands carried placards in protest unavailability of water, electricity and increase in school fee and other charges.

    The Management of the University of Calabar has announced a Two Week Mid Semester Break for all students of the University with effect from today 12th October, 2015.

    Students are expected to vacate the Hostels on or before 6:00pm to enable Management address the issues raised by the students.

    Normal academic activities would resume on Friday, 30th October, 2015.

    The Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Calabar, Prof. Cyril Ndifon, accused of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old 400-level student in his office was yesterday suspended by the panel instituted by the school’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Ivara Esu.
