    Kidnapped UNIPORT lecturer regains freedom

    The University Of Port Harcourt lecturer, Professor John Okoli, who was kidnapped by unknown gunmen on Monday, has regained his freedom.

    Okoli was released by his abductors Wednesday night after being held hostage for three days by his kidnappers.

    The university don, who is of the Faculty of Engineering, UNIPORT, was taken away from his resident in Omuoko Aluu community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state.

    Prof. Ndokwa Lale, Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, has been suspended by the governing council of the university after Its meeting yesterday, Monday 6th June 2016.

    Authorities of the University of Port Harcourt have withdrawn their earlier announcement that the institution will re-open for academic activities on Monday, May, 23 2016.

    Deputy Registrar in charge of Public Affairs, William Wodi said the earlier announced Monday 23rd May resumption date was a proposal that had not been approved by the university’s Senate body.

    The University of Port Harcourt is to reopen for academic activities on May 23 after 43 days of closure, following a violent student protest.

    The Deputy Registrar (Information) of the university, Dr. Williams Wodi, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
