The former Nigerian international has compared himself with the Mainz defender following his brilliant performances whenever he wears the Super Eagles’ jersey.



Taribo West has praised Leon Balogun for the tidy defending role he plays in Gernot Rohr’s team, confessing that whenever he sees Balogun play, he reminds him of his playing days.

Following Nigeria’s win over Algeria, the former Inter Milan defender reserved some comments for the German-born Nigerian who shows a degree of leadership in the defence.

Since making his debut for Nigeria against Mexico in 2014, Balogun has established himself as a prominent member of the Nigerian team, bringing stability to the Nigerian defence with just four caps.

Taribo encouraged the 28-year old to keep up his playing momentum tipping him to be a potential Super Eagles captain in the future.

“The boy (Leon Balogun) is good, he is no way the finished product yet, but I have not seen any defender in the colours of Nigeria, who reminds me of myself like him,” Taribo West was quoted by Our newsmen.

“He won everything in the air, calm with the ball at his feet and good in reading and intercepting play.

“He is a natural leader, a sure captain material if he maintains his performance.”
