Unidentified hoodlums numbering 100 invaded the Internally Displaced Persons camp in Apo area of Abuja on Saturday and carted away some relief materials meant for 872 IDPs by the Nigerian Red Cross Society.

It was gathered that the incident occurred during the distribution of the relief materials to the IDPs by Total Nigeria PLC.

Confirming the incident in an interview, the Corporate Affairs Manager, Total Nigeria PLC, Mr. Alber Mabuyaku, said, “It is based on this incident that we decided to officially hand over the relief materials to the Nigerian Red Cross Society to systematically find the best way of delivering it to them.”

Mabuyaku said the hoodlums overpowered the members of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps brought in to maintain law and order.

The Acting Secretary General of the NRCS, Mr. Andronicus Adeyemo, who received the items on behalf of the NRCS, commended Total PLC for the gesture, and promised that they would ensure the relief items were distributed to the IDPs.

Items distributed to the IDPs by the society included mosquito nets and solar lamps, among others.
