Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger picked the 2006 Champions League final defeat to Barcelona as the worst moment of his time in charge of the Gunners.

The Frenchman is celebrating an incredible 20 years in charge of the north London giants this week, and reflected on his biggest regret with the club.

Leading 1-0 against favourites Barca in the 2006 final in Paris, Wenger came agonisingly close to guiding Arsenal to their first ever European Cup win.

The Catalan giants fought back with late goals from Samuel Eto’o and Juliano Belletti, and Arsenal have not looked at all close to lifting the trophy again since.

Speaking to his former striker Thierry Henry on Sky Sports, Wenger said: ‘There are many worst (moments), Thierry.’

‘Unfortunately, in the career, maybe the Champions League final that we lost. We were 13 minutes away from winning the final.’

Wenger is widely regarded as Arsenal’s best manager ever, and indeed one of the finest in the history of English football, and has had his fair share of great moments as well as heartbreak for the Gunners.
