It was gathered that the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in the forthcoming Ondo election, Rotimi Akeredolu, has explained his absence from the governorship debate organised by Channels Television on Monday night.

Akeredolu had been absent from the event moderated by Channels TV correspondent, Seun Okinbaloye.

But Akeredolu, in a letter signed by Kunle Adebayo, communications secretary of his campaign organisation, said he could not attend the debate because it coincided with its organisation’s campaign schedule.

He said the debate came “at a time when our grassroots rallies are at their peaks”, adding that he was, at the time of the programme, “tucked in the deep riverine communities of Ilaje Local Government, most of which have no access to electricity to watch television”.

Olusola Oke of the Alliance for Democracy; Jimoh Ibrahim of Peoples Democratic Party; and Olu Agunloye of Social Democratic Party, were the three candidates that were at the two-hour programme.

  1. Stori! stori!! stori!!! Was it yesterday he was told about the debate or is he telling Ondo people that those people that attended are not campaigning? It just shows that he cannot plan bcos with proper planning(allocation of time), you will achieve a lot within a particular time frame. I believe he deliberately dodged the debate bcos he really doesn't have much to tell Ondo people as regards what he can do for them if elected as their governor, case closed as the Ondo people speak loudly come Saturday!

  2. A pity that such an educated person Will give such a lame excuse. He prefers to meet a local unit of a state instead of meeting the whole state at a time using the debate platform. Our elders loose every sense of good judgement as soon as they join politics. I am disappointed.

  3. This is not acceptable, we're talking about the future of a state and millions of citizens. The only excuses 'they' (APC) can come out with is that, they're tucked in the deep riverine communities. Anyway, in this present and challenging times, it will be better to let all this old man togo and sit down. We as a youth need to sit down and challenge ourself with a way forward because our destiny is in our own hand
